What the course covers

The course runs in three parts, taught by people who have done this for real at the roadside.

Scene safety

How to protect the scene so nobody else gets hurt, what to tell the 999 operator, and how to make yourself and the casualty visible to other traffic.

Casualty care

Hands-on first aid for the injuries riders actually get: checking breathing, controlling serious bleeding, and when a helmet should or shouldn’t come off.

Rider skills

Why riders get missed at junctions, how to be seen, and the habits that make it less likely you’ll ever be the one on the ground.

What you take home

Everyone who completes the course goes home with a compact trauma kit made to fit on a motorcycle, and a Biker Down pin badge.

More importantly, you’ll leave knowing you could step in and help, rather than standing back hoping someone else will.

Run by bikers, for bikers

The Biker Down Staffordshire team are serving and former emergency-service staff, including police motorcyclists, paramedics and pre-hospital care specialists, who give their time for free.

The course was set up in memory of PC Luke Van De Sande, who died in an off-duty motorcycle crash in 2019. It’s delivered with Staffordshire Police, the Central Motorway Police Group and DocBike.
